PROGRAM AND POLICIES

Affiliations: MYSA (Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association)
Marshfield Youth Soccer will assure that all players and members are affiliated with the appropriate state organization. This affiliation is required in order to provide the proper liability coverage. In the event that affiliation with a state organization is no longer possible, all players and associates must be registered and covered under a separate liability coverage plan. In either case, it is the responsibility of the player to make sure that Marshfield Youth Soccer receives the required information to provide affiliation or registered coverage.

Athletes’ Rights
It is the intent of Marshfield Youth Soccer that all rules, regulations and actions affecting Marshfield Youth Soccer help to provide for the safety, well-being and enjoyment of all players.

Admittance Policies, Rules and Regulations for Annual Registration
A player is considered registered if he/she has submitted all forms and payment as required by the Marshfield Youth Soccer Registrar. To be accepted, all forms must be completed in accordance with the instructions issued, and must be received by the Registrar no later than the date specified by the Board of Directors for the season in which the player wishes to participate.
Player eligibility shall be determined by the player’s age or grade in school. He/she must have a parent or guardian release form, and must have paid all organization fees. Marshfield Youth Soccer will accept any and all children living in town to play.
Failure to comply with the above registration procedures will eliminate the player from participating in Marshfield Youth Soccer, and may limit the player’s coverage under any liability coverage obtained by Marshfield Youth Soccer.

Late Fee
Players who have not submitted a completed entry form together with full payment before the deadline set by the Board of Directors (see MYSA Home or Registration page for current year) will not be guaranteed a playing position on a team and will be charged a late fee of $25.

Refund Policy
Registrants who must cancel prior to September 1, 2006 can receive a refund of their registration fee (less an online processing fee). After September 1st, there are no refunds. Please register only if you’re sure you can play. Late dropouts can leave teams shorthanded, making things difficult for the remaining players.

Waiting List
Once the registration deadline has passed, all late registrants will be placed on the waiting list for his/her age group. Each age-group coordinator will work with the Registrar to manage the waiting list for their age group. We will work to place as many wait-listed children as possible, although players who register late cannot be guaranteed placement on a Marshfield Youth Soccer team. Our mission is to ensure a great soccer experience for ALL the children in the program, so we have placed limits on the number of players per team. Once these limits have been reached, no additional players can be accepted.

Scholarships
It is the policy of Marshfield Youth Soccer that no child should be denied the opportunity to play soccer due to a family’s financial situation. Those applying for a scholarship should use the by-mail registration option. Fill out the registration form and attach a note requesting a scholarship. All scholarship requests are confidential.

Uniform Policy
Marshfield Youth Soccer provides a uniform to all players participating in the in-town program (U6 have colored tee-shirts, U8 and U10 have shorts, numbered shirt and socks and play with pinnies). Children participating in our Travel Program (U12 and above) are issued a full uniform after the teams are formed. These uniforms must be worn for all travel games. Failure to wear the full uniform will result in the player being ineligible to play in the game.

Player Transfer and Placement
Players may not be transferred from one team to another after the rosters have been finalized without the approval the Division Director. Players in the travel program require a formal add/delete to roster by the Registrar to transfer from one team to another. All changes must be submitted to the Coastal League.
No player in the Travel Program - U12 and above - shall be allowed to play up in an age group above that which would be normal for his or her age unless the organization does not have enough players to field a viable team at the child’s appropriate age level. In that eventuality, players would be allowed to join the next oldest age group.
Players in the in-town program (U10 and below) may petition to the Division Director of the higher division to play up. This petition must be done in writing and submitted prior to the start of the fall season. This is not encouraged. Approvals are very limited and shall be based on a player’s skill level, maturity, physical size and strength. The only exception to this rule is any player with an August birthday automatically has the right to move up to be eligible to participate on a team with his or her school grade peers.

Coaching Positions
Anyone interested in an appointment as a coach or assistant coach must submit his/her name to a member of the Board of Directors. If you would like to be a coach or assistant coach or to lend a hand in any capacity, please notify a Division Director or a Board Member. You be subject to a CORI background check. This is required for all volunteers. All coaches are STRONGLY recommended to attend the basic coaching courses offered by MYSA through Massachusetts Youth Soccer. Also all coaching commitments are for both the fall and the spring seasons. Conflicts with other sports should be taken into consideration before making the commitment to coach Marshfield Youth Soccer.

Age Groups
The Marshfield Youth Soccer program will have age groups for under 19/18 (spring travel only), under 16 (spring travel only), under 14 (fall and spring travel), under 12 (fall in-town; spring travel), under 10 (fall and spring in-town only), under 8 (fall and spring in-town only), and under 6 (fall and spring in-town only). A player must turn the minimum age by August 1 of the year in order to play in the fall season.

Late Fee Registration Policy
All returning players who respond after the deadline (set each year by the Board) will be subject to a $25.00 late fee per child.

Compliance and Sanctions
Each coach is responsible for verifying that all of the players are properly registered and qualified to play on a team. If it is determined that a team has used an unregistered, suspended, over-age, or otherwise unqualified player in a game, the game shall be considered a forfeit. In addition, the Board of Directors or Division Director may suspend the team, coach and/or the player for a certain number of games or period of time. Any player who misrepresents his/her age will be suspended for the remainder of the season. A coach or assistant coach knowingly using an over-age, suspended, unregistered, or otherwise unqualified player will be automatically suspended and only readmitted to the Marshfield Youth Soccer program after applying in writing to the Board of Directors or Division Director. The Board of Directors or Division Director’s decision concerning coaches and assistant coaches can be changed only by a majority vote of the Board of Directors during a meeting of the Board at which a quorum exists.

In-Town Program

Junior Division Game Format

U6s – Players will spend ½ the time period learning skills through fun drills and games. The second half will be spend playing informal scrimmages of a maximum of 6 v 6 - with or without goalies. There are no field lines and play is very informal and geared to player development. There are no scores or standings kept.

U8s – Players will spend 15-20 minutes on skill development and warm-up (longer in the fall, shorter in the spring). The teams will then be split and the teams will play a semi-formal game of 7 v 7 with goalies. All rules of soccer will be introduced and enforced (with the exception of off-sides). Teams will play different teams according to a schedule set by the Division Director and published at the beginning of each season. There are no standings in this age group. Play is to be balanced by the coaches to ensure no “blow outs.”

U10s – Players will spend 15-20 minutes on skill development and warm-up (longer in the fall, shorter in the spring). Play is to be balanced by the coaches to ensure no “blow outs.” Referees are introduced in the spring to formalize the play further and get the players accustomed to a game format.

Travel Program

At the U12 and above age level all teams travel to play in the Coastal League in the spring. This is an eight to ten game schedule. Teams are eligible to play in the State MTOC tournament at the end of the season based on the standings in the league. This year the U14s will also travel in the fall playing a smaller 6 game schedule in the Cranberry League (a less formal league than the spring Coastal League). All Coastal League and Cranberry League play is 11 v 11.
Tryouts for the select travel teams (one for each grade) will be held in the early fall and announced on the website. All players who do not make the select teams will be drafted onto additional teams (players are eligible even if they do not try out for the select teams). The U12 travel teams will play a 6 week split squad in-town session in the fall and then progress to the 11 v 11 travel program in the spring. All team specific schedules and information are posted on the website under the TEAM page.
